1. Department Introduction

As one of the main departments of the college, Materials Engineering Department owns the oldest majors---welding, casting and forging, which were originally offered since the foundation of the college in 1959. For decades, being located in Deyang----a key manufacturing base for technological equipment of China, and based on the major equipment manufacturing industries, such as, aerospace, shipbuilding, military, railway locomotive manufacturing and scientific research institutes, it has already offered several new majors, including metal materials and heat treatment technology, physical and chemical analysis and quality control technology, metallurgical technology, and has formed an entire metal material engineering major group, ranging from material preparation to various kinds of Hot Forming, Material Modification, and then to Quality Inspection, which is the only one of this kind all over the country.

2. Specialties Setting

2.1 Welding Technology and Automation

A. Major Introduction

The major fosters the students a good professional quality. The graduates will possess the solid theoretical foundation, and be familiar with welding professional production standards, and have strong ability of welding operation and welding process of establishment and implement ability of welding.

B. Main Courses

Mechanical Drawing, Engineering Material and Heat Treatment, Welding Process, Welding Defect Control Process Formulation and Evaluation of Arc Welding, Welding Method and the Device, Typical Joint Implementation, Welding Structure, Manufacturing Process and Implement Comprehensive, Welding Professional Graduation Practice.

C. Employment

The graduates will engage in High-end equipment manufacturing enterprises, undertaking manual and automatic welding, welding assembly operation, process technology, management at primary level, education and training.

2.2 Material Engineering

A. Major Introduction

The specialty was set up at the beginning of the institute was founded in 1959. It is the only one among the national thousands of higher vocational colleges to foster a shortage of forging professionals. This major cultivates a good professional quality, a solid knowledge of metal material and shape forming, forging technology and die design, plastic molding equipment operation and process implementation skills ability of metal forging press, senior technical personnel.

B. Main Courses

Mechanical Drawing and CAD, Engineering Material and Heat Treatment, Forging Production Management and Quality Management, Stamping Process and Die, Forging Equipment, Metal Plastic Forming, Forging Process and Forging Die Design, Forging Graduate Comprehensive Practice, etc.

C. Employment

The graduates will engage in forging equipment operation, site design process implementation, forging process and forging die design and debugging, technology innovation, etc.

2.3 Material Forming and Control Engineering

A. Major Introduction

Casting is one of the basic processes of the modern equipment manufacturing industry. Casting and casting industry mark the development of a country's production capability. The major was set in 1959 when the school was built, and it has a long history, rich managerial experience and resources. The college is the only one that owns this major among the colleges and universities in the southwest of China, and is also one of the minor colleges which offer this major in China. It cultivates the students with good professional quality, a solid knowledge of metal material and casting molding, having the skillful operation of casting manufacture and casting process as well as equipment design.

B. Main Courses

Mechanical Drawing, Computer Graphics, Engineering Material and Heat Treatment. Mechanical Design Foundation, Casting Forming Theory, Fluid Mechanics and Heat Transfer Basics, Casting Production and Process Equipment Design, Casting Steel Alloy Melting and its control, Casting Non-ferrous Metal Smelting and its control, Casting CAE Optimization Design, Foundry Production Management and Quality Management, Special Casting Production and Professional English Reading, etc.

C. Employment

The graduates will work on major equipment manufacturing and modern automobile, shipbuilding, war industry, railway rolling stock and other manufacturing industries and scientific research institutes and other enterprises and institutions, engage in the casting process design, casting production operations, process equipment design, management and technology innovation, working at the local level.

2.4 Metallurgy Technology

A. Major Introduction

The major was started in 2007 when the first Order Form class opened. In 2009 the college officially opened the major of Metallurgy Technology, the only one among thousands of vocational colleges throughout China that cultivates metallurgy technology professionals for the equipment manufacturing industry, and trains the high technical professionals with a good professional quality, a solid knowledge of metal material, smelting alloy melting, pouring operation ability, melting process of formulation and implementation ability.

B. Main Courses

Mechanical Drawing, Steel Metallurgical Principle, Metallurgical Smelting General Machinery and Equipment, Non-ferrous Metal Smelting and its control, Converter Steel Making, Furnace Smelting Production, Refining outside the furnace, Pouring Process, Metallurgy Production Management, etc.

C. Employment

It mainly faces the major aerospace equipment manufacturing industries, ship manufacturing metallurgical industry and scientific research institutes and other enterprises and institutions, such as Chinese Academy of Engineering Physics, China Erzhong Group Co., Dongfang Electric, China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, Aviation Industry Corporation of ChinaAVIC, China Aviation Science and Technology Institute, Pangang Group.

2.5 Metal Material and Heat Treatment Technology

A. Major Introduction

This major owns its history of nearly 20 years, since with adequate teachers and abundant teaching resources the college is the first to start this major in vocational colleges. Now the college is the deputy director of the teaching guiding committee in national machinery professional education and materials engineering field. It’s the National model major supported by the central finance and it became the key major supported by the central finance in 2010. Heat treatment technology is indispensable to a metal material performance and a basic technology in equipment manufacturing with a wide application. Cultivate the students with a good professional quality, a solid knowledge of metal material and heat treatment, heat treatment of operation, heat treatment process and equipment design, equipment maintenance and material mechanical property testing as well as metallographic analysis.

B. Main Courses

Mechanical Drawing and CAD, Metallography and Metal Materials, Microstructure Analysis, Material Forming and Control Basis, Metal Mechanical Performance Test, Thermal Detection Technology, Heat Treatment, Heat Treatment Equipment, Heat Treatment, Heat Treatment Professional Graduate Comprehensive Practice Operation Skill Training.

C. Employment

The graduates will work in some state-owned enterprises focusing on equipment manufacturing, aerospace, nuclear industry, shipbuilding, war industry and so on. They will engage in heat treatment production operation, the heat treatment process design and implementation, management, product inspection of metal material, technology innovation and other jobs.

2.6 Physical & Chemical Testing and Quality Inspection Technology

A. Major Introduction

The major was set up in 1995 at the college which is the first to open this major. Nowadays there are just few vocational colleges and universities which own this major. Thanks to a team of good teachers with more than 2 levels of civilian and nuclear power product testing qualified personnel, the major is the national model with unique professional characteristics supported by the central finance. Detection is the necessary means in materials into the factory, products out of factory and production process of quality control. It plays a unique role in quality inspection in the enterprise and is the last process for raw materials into the factory products out of the factory.

The major offers the advanced technical with a good professional quality, mechanical properties of metal materials and products of nondestructive testing, test chemical composition analysis and metallographic analysis quality detection.

Mechanical Drawing, Tolerance Matching Microstructure Analysis Technology, Technology Measure, Metal Material Mechanics Performance Testing Technology, Ultrasonic Testing, Ray Detection Technology, Surface Detection, etc.

C. Employment

The graduates will work in some state-owned enterprises focusing on major equipment manufacturing, aerospace, nuclear industry, ship-building, military industry, pressure pipe installation and other industry enterprises and research institutes, engaging in metal materials as well as product quality inspection and evaluation, inspection process inspection plan formulation, preparation, analysis of quality management and inspection jobs such as technology innovation.
